Dallas Cowboys Weekend

Family Fun in Dallas/Ft. Worth - Go Cowboys!

My husband was turning 50 this year and has always been a huge Dallas Cowboys fan even though we are from Florida.  When Dallas clinched a home play off game, we decided to go as we had never been to the stadium.

We stayed at the Doubletree by Hilton Arlington DFW South.  It seemed to get good reviews and I read they had outside transportation services to Cowboys games.  The hotel seemed relatively new and was convenient to the airport.  We did rent a car as we wanted to be able to explore the area as well.

We flew in Friday night after work and just picked up our rental car and headed straight for the hotel and to bed.

Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017 - Ft. Worth Stockyards - AT&T Stadium - Rodeo

We woke up and had breakfast at Cracker Barrel near out hotel.  We have these in Florida, too, but we don't have one close to our house.

We then headed to the Ft. Worth Stockyards.  This place was cool.  We shopped a bit, looking at cowboy hats and such.  We were just in time for the cattle herd which was so unique!

We then watched the gun fight show.  This was a little loud for my kids.

There was also an area where kids could ride ponies.  You could also take you picture on a Long Horn Steer!

Then we headed to the stadium to buy some souvenirs.  The gift shop is HUGE!  We did not do a stadium tour, but they sound fun!

We knew we wanted to see a rodeo, but wasn't sure which to see.  There was a rodeo at the Stockyards, but the Ft. Worth Stock Show and Rodeo was also going on at this time.  We decided to do the Ft. Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.  We had never been to a rodeo, so this was very interesting. This was not touristy at all.  There seemed to be mostly locals at the event.  (I'm guessing the Stockyards might have more tourists).  The kids seemed to enjoy the rodeo and so did we.

Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017 - GAME DAY! - Cowboys vs. Packers

Today was game day!  I had read that parking was tough and very expensive at the stadium, so we decided to buy tickets on the shuttle that left from our hotel.  The hotel doesn't run this, but is run by Majestic Tours.  We are so glad that we did, because we read about Uber price surges after the game that were outrageous.  It also was pouring rain and there was a tornado warning after the game, but we made it back to the hotel safely.

The game itself was so fun!  Unfortunately the Cowboys lost, but it was probably one of the best playoff games in history!

We left Monday morning and had a great little trip to Dallas/Ft. Worth area.
