Hilo - port Pride of America

We got up early again and took a taxi to the airport to get our rental car. We used Guide Along (Gypsy) app at all our stops. We headed for Volcano National Park. We got Junior Ranger badges at the Visitor Center and headed for Keanakaoi overlook. It was about a 2 mile hike. We brought binoculars and a camera with zoom lens. Unfortunately the ship doesn’t stay overnight in Hilo, but we did see some lava! I read it’s more spectacular at night so we booked a night after the cruise.

Lava

We then headed to Thurston Lava Tube which was a nice short walk.

We then headed for Rainbow falls. These are great waterfalls you can almost see right from the parking lot. We didn’t catch a rainbow.

We then headed to Carlsmith Beach Park and saw so many turtles! This park was filled with locals.

We then returned our rental car, but had trouble opening our trunk! We were afraid we would miss the ship, but with help we eventually got it opened.

Dinner tonight was at Cagney’s on the ship which was delicious.
