Hilo/ Volcano National Park

We took an early flight to Hilo and got our rental car. We headed to Ken’s for their famous pancakes. The service was slow and our waitress was pretty surly. We did get to ring the gong for the Sumo order.

We then headed back to Carlsmith Beach Park and swam with the turtles. I had wanted to explore Volcano National Park more, but I got vetoed. There were a lot of local families picnicking and swimming. There weren’t as many turtles as the previous visit.

We then headed to our hotel Volcano House in the park. We had a volcano view room. It was basic, but we did have a nice view at night you can see the lava.

We had dinner at the hotel and then headed out to see the lava at night. We went to the same overlook. It was amazing to see!

We flew home the next day and had a long layover in Honolulu. We decided to go into town for one last lunch. We drove by Iolani Palace, but it was closed. We went to Mai Tai bar at the Royal Hawaiian and shopped a little before flying home.

One last lava flow
